Frequency and characteristics of ESBL-producing Escherichia coli isolated from Mexican fresh cheese

Fresh cheese is one of the most consumed products dairy industry in México. This study aimed to determine frequency, antimicrobial resistance, and genetic characteristics extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL)-producing Escherichia coli fresh cheese. From samples, E. was isolated production ESBL, antibiotic resistance patterns, frequency genes, relationship were analyzed. Sixty ESBL-producing belonging phylogenetic groups A, C, B1 highly resistant beta-lactam antibiotics, tetracycline, streptomycin, trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole. The blaCTX-M gene detected all isolates, either alone or combination with blaTEM blaSHV. Similarly, a high genes tetA, strA, strB class 1 integrons found. According their ERIC-PCR fingerprints, clustered into eight groups. In conclusion, ESBL-producing, genetically diverse, multidrug-resistant found presence constitutes public health issue because these bacteria may be pathogenic contribute dissemination other non-pathogenic bacteria.
